LIBRARY POP-UP
2019

Chinatown, Boston is an area of high density and little vegetation. This site lies directly outside the Chinatown gate, which currently is composed of a large concrete slab and small-scale playground for local children. Being a pop-up library, it is intended to serve not only as a convenient way to bring more resources and books to the area, but also as an exciting temporary addition that livens up the space.
This design was meant to combat the currently concrete field it occupies by incorporating plant life and greenery to be enjoyed by all. While the interior is occupied by book stacks, it is also welcoming to vegetation that weaves in and out of the isles, and constitutes the courtyard as well as the roof in the form of a roof garden. This space intends to use greenery to attract visitors, engage readers, and brighten the lot on which it sits.
